1 dead after school bus, semis crash west of Indy

HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A man died and 9 others were hurt, including several juveniles, when a school bus and multiple semis crashed on Interstate 70 near State Road 39 Friday.

Three semis and a school bus crashed in the westbound lanes of I-70 near mile marker 59 just before 1 p.m., according to Indiana State Police.

Officials with IU West Health Hospital said seven juveniles from Missouri were transported and are in stable condition. One adult was taken to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital and a second injured adult was transported to Hendricks Regional Health Hospital. Both are in unknown condition.

Indiana State Police said an adult man who had been a passenger in a truck has died.

The school bus was carrying students attending the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, according to police. KYTV in Missouri reports the school bus was from Stoutland Schools.

I-70 was reopened around 5 p.m.

The superintendent with Mill Creek Community School Corporation said one of his bus drivers is helping transport students from the crash. The bus involved in the crash is from Missouri, according to the Mill Creek superintendent.
