Toys for Tots and Salvation Army need space

The Marine Corps Toys for Tots program and the Salvation Army Angel Tree program have served over 10,000 families annually over the past 30 years here in northeast Indiana. But this year, they are in need of help themselves.

They are in need of a warehouse or storage facility that would help them store, pack, and distribute toys, clothing, and even food to families in need. It would not be a full-year commitment – just from November 1st through the end of December. They are looking for a facility that would have bathrooms, heat, and be secure. As far as size is concerned, it would need to be around 30,000-35,000 square feet to store all of their items collected. According to Sunny Helstrom, Director of our local Toys for Tots, the situation is dire:

the truth of the matter is if we don’t have a space, then our program will have to be cancelled. We have thousands of children and mothers and fathers who need our assistance counting on us. And we have been moving forward. We’re just now ending the sign-up for hundreds of families in Allen County alone. There’s no other way to say it other than there won’t be a program. And I really have hope that the community of Fort Wayne is gonna come through for our programs.
