INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis police say a man wounded in an officer-involved shooting was shot twice by the officer.
Police Chief Troy Riggs says the man was trying to remove an officer’s gun from its holster when the shooting occurred Wednesday afternoon on the city’s east side. In a statement, police say the officer maintained control of his gun and discharged the weapon.
Police say the man was in serious condition at a hospital. No officers were hurt.
Police say the officer had been dispatched on a theft run when a domestic dispute began between another man and his daughter. Police say they learned that the father had stolen a cellphone and debit card. When the officer tried to detain the father, a struggle ensued with the man who ended up being shot.
