FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The man found Wednesday morning in a ditch on the city’s south side, a find police deemed “suspicious,” was shot to death, the Allen County Coroner said Thursday.
Police were called around 8:20 a.m. to the 6400 block of Fairfield Avenue on a report of an unknown problem there. When officers arrived, a resident took them to a ditch line in the 6600 block of the road, near the north end of the Donald Ross Golf Club off West Tillman Road.
There, police found an unresponsive male down a steep embankment, according to a news release. Fire personnel at the scene pronounced the victim dead.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office on Thursday identified the man as 30-year-old Anton Javon Moore of Fort Wayne. An autopsy showed Moore died of gunshot wounds and his death was ruled the county’s 43rd homicide of 2016.
Police have not yet determined who shot Moore or if he was shot in the ditch. On Wednesday, detectives and crime scene investigators processed the scene and deduced only that his death was “suspicious in nature.”
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s Office and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
