DECATUR, Ind. (WANE) – Bellmont has never won a regional championship in soccer, boys or girls. The girls soccer team changing that with a 3-0 win on Saturday over Manchester to win the regional championship.
Ranked No. 5 in class 1A at the end of the regular season the Squaws also defeated defending state champs Canterbury on their road through the postseason. Bellmont is now 17-3 on the season.
The drive for the Bellmont girls soccer team comes partially from their assistant coach Rich Scragg. Rich suffered a stroke at the beginning of the season but with his team by his side he was able to make a full recovery.
Now two wins away from the state championship Bellmont will play Lafayette Central Catholic in the first round of semi-state Saturday at 10:00AM in LaVille. If they advance to the championship match it will be on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
