Homestead gearing up for state run on day one

Homestead's Karissa McLaughlin

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – After going 26-3 last season the Homestead girls basketball team is working toward a state championship during the 2016-17 season.

Per IHSAA rules, Monday marked the first official day high school girls basketball teams could practice.

While Lindley Kistler (IPFW) and Savannah Buck (St. Francis) have graduated, the Spartans return talented seniors Karissa McLaughlin (verbally committed to the University of Florida), Madisen Parker (Bowling Green), and Jazmyne Geist (Northern Kentucky).

The Spartans fell at semi-state to Penn last season and are working to make it all the way to Bankers Life Fieldhouse this season.

The first official games of the girls basketball season can begin on October 31.
