Body found in rural Noble County

NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A body was found in a rural area of Noble County Saturday evening, but that’s about all investigating police have said.

Noble County Sheriff Doug Harp said early Monday that around 6:15 p.m. Saturday, his department received a report of a possible body in the area of the 1900 block of West C.R. 100 South, just west of Chain O’ Lakes State Park near the south branch of the Elkhart River.

Harp said “it was apparent” to his deputies at the scene that the person had been there for a “significant amount of time.”

Officials have not identified the person. An autopsy will be conducted in Fort Wayne Monday morning, and the identity will be released later, Harp said.

Harp’s three-sentence news release Monday included no other information.

KPC News reported Monday that the body was found “in the general vicinity” of where a missing Kimmell man’s truck was located in late May. Jonny Lee Chambers, 37, was last seen on May 29 and reported missing by a family member May 31. His truck was found abandoned by police May 29.

Harp told KPC News, though, that there was no evidence, as of Sunday evening, that the body was or was not Chambers.
