Woman found shot in car dies, man seriously hurt

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A woman was killed and a man was seriously hurt in a shooting late Saturday night.

Officers were called to the intersection of Colerick Street and Holton Avenue around 11:45 Saturday night.

Police were called to the area of Colerick Street and Holton Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Saturday night after someone reported shots fired in the area. When officers got to the area, they found a car with two victims inside on Colerick, near Reed Street.

Erin Lecretia Lawson, 31, was taken from the scene in critical condition, but died at the hospital. The Allen County Coroner’s Office said she died of a gunshot wound and ruled her death the county’s 40th homicide of 2016.

A man was also seriously hurt. He has not been identified.

This incident remains under investigation be Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s Office and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.

The shooting came about 3 hours before another incident on Forest Avenue. One person was seriously hurt after that incident.
