HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WANE) – 4A no. 5 New Haven blanked Huntington North 42-0 to win the Northeast 8 title outright at Kriegbaum Field. Keshawn Moore threw for 210 yards to become New Haven’s all-time leading passer with 3,860 yards, passing Nate Schlund who tallied 3,652 yards from 2005 to 2007. Nishawn Jones added 10 carries for 142 yards and three touchdowns. New Haven finishes 8-0 for their first undefeated regular season since 1987. The Bulldogs host Wayne next week in sectionals.
4A no. 11 East Noble got an early challenge from Bellmont only to score 46 unanswered and defeat the Braves 53-14. East Noble was led by quarterback Andrew McCormick who was 24-of-26 passing for 271 yards and four touchdowns. McCormick also rushed for 82 yards and a score. Dylan Hunley hauled in caught 13 balls for 122 yards and two touchdowns while Justin Galaviz added four receptions for 112 yards and two scores. Caleb Hankenson led the Braves with 27 carries for 174 yards and two scores. East Noble will host DeKalb next week while Bellmont will host Norwell.
Freshman Peyton Wall tallied three interceptions and returned two for a score as Leo bested DeKalb 48-14. A.J. Restivo threw for 105 yards and two touchdowns while Trenton Bonner added a rushing and receiving touchdown for the Lions. Peyton Stout hit Collin Goebel for two touchdowns to lead the Barons. Goebel finished with 10 receptions for 112 yards. DeKalb will play at East Noble next week while Leo is at South Side.
Down in Ossian Columbia City defeated Norwell 27-13. Columbia City quarterback Brock Snouffer threw two touchdown passes while rushing for 117 yards. Khale Rider rushed 17 times for 100 yards and a touchdown while Trefor Gatchell returned a punt for a score to guide the Eagles to the win. Quarterback Joe Taylor completed 8-of-14 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown to lead the Knights. Norwell opens sectional play next week at Bellmont while Columbia City travels to NorthWood.
