10/14 NECC and Others Extended Highlights


GARRETT, Ind. (WANE) – 3A no. 17 Garrett wrapped up the regular season with a 8-1 record as the Railroaders topped Central Noble 54-32. Cam Smith rushed 12 times for 139 yards and two touchdowns for Garrett while Joel Mix added 11 carries for 139 yards and a touchdown. Tanner Burns threw for 163 yards and three touchdowns. Garrett will travel to Fairfield next week in sectional action while Central Noble will host Whitko.

Angola finished the regular season 7-2 as the Hornets defeated 2A no. 7 Eastside 10-8. Joel McCurdy had the biggest play of the game with a 54-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that gave Angola a 10-0 lead. McCurdy finished with 93 yards on nine carries. Joe White led Eastside with 21 carries for 114 yards. Eastside opens the playoff next Friday at Churubusco while Angola will host Plymouth.

2A no. 12 Churubusco saw Garrett Horn rush 21 times for 211 yards and three touchdowns as the Eagles beat Fairfield 55-25. Busco will host Eastside next Friday in sectionals while Fairfield will host Garrett.

Elsewhere in the NECC West Noble beat Prairie Heights 42-8. Fremont and Lakeland’s game was cancelled.

The Three Rivers Conference title goes to Northfield as the 1A no. 11 Norsemen beat 1A no. 9 North Miami 34-0 Friday night in Denver. Northfield finishes 8-1 in the regular season and will travel to Southwood next Friday. North Miami is 8-1 and will travel to Culver.

In NLC action Concord defeated Warsaw 45-38 in a shootout at George Fisher Field. Michael Jensen was 12-for-22 for 257 yards and four touchdowns while Will McGarvey rushed 18 times for 163 yards. Warsaw has a bye next week but will host Carroll October 28 in the first round of 6A sectional play.
