WOODBURN, Ind. (WANE) – 2A No. 1 Woodlan won their second straight ACAC title with a 28-16 win over previously unbeaten Adams Central in our Highlight Zone Game of the Week.
Jordan Delagrange scored his two touchdowns in the first quarter to give Woodlan an early 14-0 lead. Adams Central scored on a Drew Schultz TD and had a first half field goal, but Tre’Von McCarter hauled in a 67 yard touchdown pass to put the Warriors up 21-10 at halftime. The Jets made it a game early in the third quarter with Schultz’s second touchdown of the night. Schults had 70 rushing yards on 16 carries. But Jack Rhoades, who led Woodlan with 105 rushing yards, scored in the final minute of the fourth quarter to close out the win for Woodlan.
Woodlan has finished the regular season 9-0 for back-to-back seasons. This is the first time that they have won back-to-back conference titles since they won five straight from 1982-1986. The Warriors host Blufffton to open sectional play next week. 1A No. 4 Adams Central travels to Wes-Del for their sectional opener.
In Monroeville Jay County topped host Heritage 28-14 as the Patriots finished 4-2 in conference to wind up in third place of the ACAC. Evan Knapke rushed 12 times for 92 yards a touchdown to lead the Patriots. Jeshua Foster added 16 carries for 86 yards while Jonathan McLean added eight carries for 64 yards a touchdown. Heritage finishes the regular season 3-6 overall while Jay County enters the playoffs 6-3.
Elsewhere in the ACAC South Adams shut out Southern Wells 33-0 while Bluffton fell to Lima Central Catholic 33-0.
