Brian C. Combs, 33, of LaGrange was charged with murder Thursday in LaGrange Superior Court. According to KPC News, 33-year-old Clayton Rust of Angola died Monday from injuries he suffered Sept. 25 at a home in rural LaGrange.

Deputies were called to a home at 0520 South 200 East just after 6:30 p.m. that day. When they arrived, they found Rust suffering from severe injuries. He was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital.

Initially, police did not indicate a motive for the beating. KPC News reported, though, that Combs arrived at his home to find his girlfriend with Rust. The newspaper reported that court documents said Combs beat Rust in the bedroom of the home, then drug him through the home naked and beat him again before he drug him into the front yard.

Combs was arrested at the scene and booked into the LaGrange County Jail on an initial charge of attempted murder.
