Northrop, West Noble advance to regional title match

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – SAC champion Northrop and 15th-ranked West Noble will meet in the regional title match on Saturday as the Bruins and Chargers both won Thursday night in the semifinals.

In the early game Northrop (15-2-3) defeated Norwell (8-8-1) by a final of 5-0. Billy Guerrero, Denilson Madrid, and Cristobal Gonzalez each scored in the first half to give Northrop a 3-0 lead. Madrid and Erdwin Quintana scored in the second half to set the final. Northrop’s Nick Craghead made three saves to earn the shutout.

In the late game at Carroll 2A no. 15 West Noble (20-1) bested Homestead (12-6-2) by a final of 2-1. Homestead score in the 13th minute when senior John Steiner found the net, but Uriel Macias scored in the 25th and 64th minute to lead West Noble to the win.

Northrop and West Noble will now square off in the regional title game at 6 p.m. Saturday at Carroll.

In 1A boys soccer regional semifinal action at Whitko it was Blackhawk Christian over Lakewood Park 4-1 and 1A no. 7 Westview beating Bellmont 2-0.

Blackhawk and Westview will play in the regional title game at 7 p.m. Saturday.
