What you need to know to vote early

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Early voting began in Allen County on Wednesday and will continue until noon the day before Election Day. Hundreds of people showed up on the first day to cast their ballot.

Still, with four weeks to go until Election Day, these voters had their minds set.

“I’m voting for Trump and Pence,” Jerry Armstrong said.

“I’m going to vote for Hillary,” David Schearin said.

A lot of people haven’t changed their mind for months.

“I voted for the same person in the primary, and I’m confident my vote won’t change over the next four weeks,” one voter said.

“My decision was made in April,” Kaye Patrick said.

“We spend a lot of time getting preparing for what we call showtime, so here we are,” Allen County Elections Director Beth Dlug said.

Dlug said early voting is very popular especially for a presidential election. By late morning on Wednesday more people had gone through the voting center at the Rousseau Center than in one day during the Primary or 2015 election.

For some, the sooner they vote, the faster this election season will go.

“It can’t be too soon to get it over with,” Patrick said. “I just really want to see this thing done.”

“There are a lot of people who have already made up their minds,” Dlug said. “They’ve made up their minds, they’re ready to vote. We’re glad to be able to provide that service.”
