ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A semi truck driver was hospitalized early Wednesday morning after the rig rolled into a ditch off U.S. 30 near the Allen-Whitley county lines.
Police and medics were called around 5:45 a.m. to a stretch of the highway near Felger Road. Crews arrived to find a tractor-trailer tipped over in a ditch just off the highway.
The driver of the semi was stuck in the cab for nearly 30 minutes, his leg trapped, police at the scene said. Firefighters cut the rig open to free him. He was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, police said.
Investigators have not determined what caused the semi to crash.
Police closed westbound U.S. 30 as crews worked the crash. At least one lane remained closed for more than five hours. Another minor crash happened in the eastbound lanes as officers and firefighters were working.
