KENDALLVILLE, Ind. (WANE) – Soccer fans were soaked by the end of the night in Kendallville but it didn’t rain on the parade of DeKalb or Carroll as the Barons and Chargers each won their 2A regional semifinal match on Wednesday night to advance to the championship game this Saturday.
In the early game at East Noble it was 2A no. 13 Carroll (12-4-2) bested Norwell (9-9-1) by a final of 3-0. Cali Geiger scored in the 34th minute to get Carroll on the board. Geiger and Olivia Sloffer each found the net in the second half to set the final.
In the late game DeKalb (16-1-1) and Concordia (11-9) went to penalty kicks after a scoreless regulation and overtime. The Barons connected on 3 of their first 4 kicks while Concordia went 2 for 4. Faith Lewis sealed the deal for the Barons as she converted on DeKalb’s fifth and final attempt as the Barons won the PK battle 4-2 to set the final at 1-0.
DeKalb and Carroll advance to the regional title game at 2 p.m. Saturday in Kendallville.
At the Goshen regional on Wednesday 2A no. 1 Penn beat 2A no. 18 Warsaw (16-5) 7-1 to end the Tigers’ season.
