JASPER COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – An Illinois woman was killed when she stepped outside her vehicle Monday on I-65 south bound.
A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 10:45 a.m. the woman pulled her 2014 black Chevrolet Suburban over onto the outer shoulder of I-65 to check on noise coming from her vehicle. After the woman closed the driver’s door she was hit by a passing semi.
The semi was described by a witness as an older model, gray Freightliner pulling an enclosed gray box trailer. The semi never stopped and continued south down I-65.
The woman’s vehicle was pulled well off the roadway and there was no damage to it. After the woman was struck, she was thrown partially underneath her vehicle. She was pronounced dead the scene by the Jasper County Coroner of massive blunt force trauma.
The woman’s mother and two minor children were inside the vehicle with the incident occurred. They were not injured.
