FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Indiana candidate for State Representative, 85th District, Democrat Kathy Zoucha wants to end ISTEP testing.
Zoucha is a special education teacher at Kekionga Middle School. Zoucha believes ISTEP testing ruins children’s love of learning.
“We’re taking away their wonder years, and we’re turning it into their testing years,” Zoucha said. “My school is a very high poverty school, my students are already stressed at it is. We don’t need to add more stress to their lives.
Zoucha mentioned that Indiana has a high rate of students taking ADHD medication and the CDC attributes that to high stakes testing.
Zoucha is running against Republican David Heine and will be on the General Election ballot in November.
