Komets fall in exhibition opener to Indy Fuel

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Komets scored two goals in the first six minute and nine seconds of the first period but eventually fell to the Indy Fuel 4-3 in their exhibition opener Friday night at War Memorial Coliseum.

Garrett Thompson scored on a pass from Cody Sol at 3:31 in the first frame to give the Komets a 1-0 lead. Jamie Schaafsma would score on the power play less than three minutes later to make it 2-0. The Fuel would reel off four consecutive goals until Schaafsma found the net again with 24 seconds remaining in the third period.

Pat Nagle stopped 20 of 24 shots for the Komets.

The Komets continue their exhibition slate tomorrow at the Indy Fuel at 6 p.m. Fort Wayne plays its third and final exhibition game Monday night against Brampton at the Coliseum at 7:30 p.m.
