GARRETT, Ind. (WANE) – The NECC big division title belongs to Garrett as the Railroaders edged Angola 28-27 Friday night at Memorial Field. Down 21-14 entering the fourth quarter a Tanner Burns 1-yard TD for Garrett knotted the game at 21 with 11:54 remaining. A Cam Smith rushing touchdown gave Garrett a 28-21 lead with 6:01 to play. Angola would answer when Jarrett Gibson hit a wide open Jarrett Schultz with 58 seconds left to cut the Garrett lead to 28-27. Instead of attempting a PAT for the tie the Hornets went for two, but Chance Roddy’s pass was dropped in the end zone, sealing a 28-27 win for Garrett over the 4A no. 15 Hornets.
The NECC small division title was clinched by 2A no. 7 Eastside as the Blazers defeated Central Noble 35-6. Eastside quarterback Conner Dove led the way by completing 14-of-22 passes for 167 yards and three touchdowns. Dove also ran 14 times for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Central Noble’s Sam Bortner hauled in a 41-yard strike from Mason Smith for the Cougars’ only score.
Churubusco used their classic ground-and-pound attacked to top West Noble 40-6. Sam Richards rushed seven times for 124 yards and two touchdowns while Garrett Horn added 104 rushing yards and two touchdowns of his own.
1A no. 11 Northfield topped 2A no. 12 Whitko 34-12 on Friday to clinch the TRC’s North Division title. Jensen Frieden rushed 16 times for 108 yards and three touchdowns for the Norseme while Jackson Beery added 10 carries for 126 yards. Garrett Elder paced Whitko with 18 carries for 95 yards and two touchdowns.
