Child shot in southeast-side neighborhood

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A young child was shot in an incident on Fort Wayne’s southeast side mid-morning Friday.

Police and medics were called around 10:15 a.m. Friday to the area of Chadwick Drive and Richfield Lane, in the Crown Colony subdivision off East Tillman Road. Dispatchers told NewsChannel 15 that a child was shot and someone took the child to an area hospital.

Dispatchers said the child was in serious condition.

Fort Wayne Police were at the scene investigating. Officers have not said if the shooting was accidental or criminal. City Public Safety Director Rusty York could only say the child was shot in the leg. The child was not identified.
