Police and medics were called around 3:16 p.m. Thursday to a stretch of West Jefferson Boulevard east of Main Street, near the Sweet Cars automotive dealer adjacent to Swinney Park.

Police at the scene said a black GMC Envoy was making a left turn onto Jefferson but crossed into the path of a white minivan that was westbound on the road. A woman in the Envoy and a male in the minivan were both taken away in an ambulance, police said.

The crash forced the closure of both eastbound lanes and one westbound lane. The thoroughfare was reopened before 5:30 p.m.
