Leo edges Homestead, Lions repeat as regional champs

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Wednesday’s regional title match-up at Carroll High School came down to no. 1 singles with Eli Steiner topping David Heiney in three sets to lead no. 4 Leo over no. 8 Homestead as the Lions won 3-2 to bring home their second consecutive regional championship.

Steiner won 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 to seal the win for Leo, who improves to 18-0 as a team this season.

Leo Eli Herran won at no. 2 singles (6-2, 6-0), while teammate Isaac Steiner won in straight sets at no. 3 singles (6-3, 6-1).

Homestead earned wins in both doubles matches, with Jeff Reinking and Jordan Andrews winning at no. 1 doubles (6-1, 6-4), and Evan Castle and Nic Grabner at no. 2 doubles (2-6, 6-4, 6-3).

Leo advances to face no. 3 North Central (13-3) at semi-state this Saturday. The two programs square off at Homestead High School at noon.
