Arrest made in hit-and-run that hurt 5-year-old

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Fort Wayne Police have arrested a 39-year-old woman on allegations she struck a 5-year-old with her vehicle and drove off, the child left seriously hurt.

Kneisha Lovette McLellan of Fort Wayne is charged with misdemeanor Operating A Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering A Person, court records show.

Police said McLellan was behind the wheel of a vehicle that struck a child in the 4300 block of Marquette Drive around 7 p.m. Tuesday. At the scene, investigators said the vehicle was west on Marquette and the children went into the road and was struck by the vehicle.

McLellan allegedly then drove off. Police found her vehicle a short distance away and she was arrested.

Police told NewsChannel 15 alcohol could have been a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
