Family escapes early morning house fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A stubborn attic fire caused heavy damage to a home early Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to the house in the 5000 block of Woodford Drive just before 3 a.m.

When they got to the scene, crews found the attic above the 1 story house was on fire. Two adults, 2 children and their pets escaped safely.

It took firefighters about 45 minutes to get the fire under control. There was heavy fire, smoke and water damage.

The Red Cross is aiding the family and the fire is under investigation.
