People gather outside school attended by smothered children

ARCOLA, Ind. (WANE) – People gathered outside Arcola Elementary Friday evening for  a vigil to honor 6-year-old Rene Pasztor and 7-year-old Liliana Hernandez, two children who were smothered by their mother.

Rene and Liliana had both attended Arcola Elementary in Arcola.

Rene and Liliana’s mother Amber Pasztor, 29, abducted the children on Monday from a home on the 7000 block of U.S. 33 before traveling to Elkhart. Pasztor’s parents had custody of the children.

Neighbors and relatives close to Pasztor have accused her of being addicted to spice, a synthetic version of marijuana known to cause hallucinations, erratic behavior and violence.

The investigation into the children’s death is ongoing.
