LAGRANGE, Ind. (WANE) LaGrange County Prosecutor Gregory J. Kenner announced Thursday that a police officer’s actions were reasonable and legally justified when he shot at a suspect involved in a multi-county chase on August 16, 2016.
Kenner said he reached the conclusion after a thorough review of an Indiana State Police investigation of the case involving LaGrange Police Department Officer Nicolas J. Dubea.
The suspect, Cesar Felipe Jaramillo-Moreno, 23, of Goshen, was not hit by any of the shots fired by Dubea. Officers had put down stop sticks to try to slow Jaramillo-Moreno down as he drove a van on County Road 600 South near County Road 600 WEst near Topeka during a pursuit that started in Elkhart County earlier in the day.
Officer Dubea told investigators he feared for his life and that’s why he fired shots at the van which crashed shortly afterwards.
