Fort Wayne Police were called around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection of Warsaw and St. Martins streets, near St. Peters Catholic Church a block east of Lafayette Street.

A witness told NewsChannel 15 that he was in his vehicle a block away when he heard gunshots. The witness said he looked up to see three or four men running, at one firing shots. One man then collapsed.

The witness said the victim then sat up in the grass and appeared to have been shot in the lower body. Fort Wayne Police Department spokesperson Michael Joyner said the victim was shot in the leg. That man’s condition is serious, but he is stable, Joyner said.

The witness estimated he heard 8-12 shots. Another witness told NewsChannel 15 that he heard seven shots. Joyner said there were several shell casings found at the scene.

The shooting happened moments before a reported double shooting at 4033 Lillie St., near Baxter Street, several blocks southeast.
