FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A home just south of downtown Fort Wayne caught fire early Tuesday.
Fort Wayne Fire crews were called just before 8 a.m. to a home at 629 Dewald St. As many as six engines were called to the scene.
According to fire officials, a small fire started in the kitchen, near the back of the home, and spread up a stairwell just off the kitchen. The flames appeared to be toward the back of the home. Smoke could be seen billowing from the attic and upstairs windows.
Firefighters had the blaze under control in 13 minutes.
No one was home at the time of the fire. A small dog ran out of the home when firefighters broke in. An Animal Care and Control officer was able to gather the dog.
No firefighters were hurt.
Dewald was closed from Oakley Street to Fairfield Avenue.
