Fort Wayne police were called just after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday to an address at 4033 Lillie St., near Baxter Street just west of McMillen Golf Course, on a report of a double shooting there. When police arrived they found two men down on the sidewalk in critical condition.

Fort Wayne Police Department spokesperson Michael Joyner said a dark colored car pulled up in front of the Lillie Street home. A man was driving and a woman was in the passenger seat. Joyner said the man got out of the car and fired several shots. The man then got back in the car and headed north on Lillie.

“This isn’t the first shooting that happened on this street,” neighbor James William said. “They happen pretty often right down the street there.”

Joyner said they don’t know a motive at this time, but he said he suspects drugs or gangs were involved like several of the recent shootings across the city.

“Get out of gangs, get out of drugs, settle your beefs like men and women that have intelligence and let’s make a difference in our community. Make a difference in your life. There’s nothing good that comes out of this. It’s just a series of tragedies and unspeakables,” Joyner said.

Tragedies that happen in front of William’s home.

“I just think it’s awful. People better put the guns down and start praying,” William said.

The victims’ names have not been released at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP.
