Annual ‘Walk for Animals’ raises awareness about neglect, abuse

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A picture purrfect day at Franke Park greeted pet owners and pets for the 29th Annual Walk for Animals.

Hundreds of pets and their owners took part in the annual walk Sunday afternoon. New for 2016 was a “Furry Scurry Fun Run.”

The annual event raises money to help fight animal abuse and neglect through education.

Officials with Animal Care and Control said education is important for early intervention and the prevention of dog bites to children.

The run/walk event helps children understand animal compassion, responsible pet ownership, bite prevention, and loving animals.

First News Weekend Meteorologist Rob Lydick was the event’s emcee.
