Johnny Appleseed Festival draws crowds in 42nd year

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The controversy over where Johnny Appleseed is buried did not matter during the 42nd annual Johnny Appleseed Festival.

Instead, the legend of John Chapman – Appleseed’s given name – was remembered at the festival, spread across Johnny Appleseed Memorial Park and Archer Park, sandwiched between the St. Joseph River and Memorial Coliseum.

Hundreds of vendors were on hand, from food to crafts and demonstrations and a kids area, and hundreds upon hundreds of festival goers attended. Soggy weather on Saturday did nothing to push away those crowds or limit business at the festival, a local favorite.
