WATERLOO, Ind. (WANE) – The DeKalb girls golf team exemplified what it means to be “Baron Strong” on Saturday, Still grieving the loss of their classmates Derek Padilla and Lucas Oberkiser the Lady Barons battled through wet and windy conditions to win the Northeast 8 conference championship Saturday at Noble Hawk Golf Course.
DeKalb held off reigning champions Leo 328-342 to win its first conference championship in girls golf in seven years. Four of their golfers placed in the top ten individually with Lexy Stuckey (78) taking 4th place followed by twin sister Bayley (81) in 5th, Sarah Willams (84) finished in 6th and Ally Stuckey (85) in seventh.
The Lady Barons will play in the Angola golf sectional at Zollner Golf Course on Saturday. DeKalb is searching for its first sectional title since 2010.
