FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Tradition is a word many would use to describe the Bishop Dwenger football program. When it comes to keeping the team’s statistics, Carol Cornell and Dave Scudder have a tradition that dates back to 1973.
The duo is in its 44th season of tracking the numbers on Friday nights.
Both picked up the job while teaching at the school, but have both since retired.
Scudder, a former history teacher, went to school at Dwenger and was in the school’s first graduating class. In his first year since retiring from teaching, Scudder also keeps basketball stats and coaches the golf team.
Cornell retired in 2003 after teaching religion for 30 years. She took many students to Europe as a teacher, with that experience eventually leading her to become a travel agent. Cornell says she’s made 102 trips to Europe so far.
The duo says they evaluate whether they’ll return at the end of every season.
