FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Growing up in Fort Wayne Zach McKinstry had been to Parkview Field many times – but never as a professional baseball player. That changed Wednesday night when McKinstry suited up at second base for the visiting Great Lakes Loons.
A draft-eligible sophomore at Central Michigan, McKinstry was selected in the 33rd by the Los Angeles Dodgers in this June’s MLB draft. After signing McKinstry played four games for the Dodgers’ Arizona Rookie League squad before heading to Great Lakes – located just miles from where he played college baseball.
McKinstry, who was a shortstop at North Side High School and CMU, is playing primarily second base and third base for the Loons. He went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and a walk in Wednesday’s game and is hitting .258 with the Loons.
The TinCaps and Loons continue their series at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow at Parkview Field.
