FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Snider’s defense was the darling of Week 2 of the Highlight Zone with the Panthers putting a pounding on Carroll 41-7 in our Highlight Zone “Game of the Week.” Carroll’s lone score came from Connor Tapp’s pick-six in the fourth quarter. Snider’s defense held Carroll to just 142 yards of total offense. On the other side of the ball the Panthers were paced by Money Woods’ 112 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Christian Covington, Michael Haupert, and Mac Hippenhammer scored a touchdown a piece for Snider as did Damarious Ridley who returned a punt for 62 yards for his only touchdown of the game.
At Chambers Field 4A no.1 Bishop Dwenger got off to a slow start but ended up topped host North Side 30-6. The Saints rushed for 214 yards and four touchdowns while quarterback Blake Podschlne was 11-for-18 for 120 yards. North Side was led by Montrail Moore’s 53 yards rushing and Kalen Desrosiers who hauled in two passes for 31 yards including a 25-yard score. Dwenger’s defense limited the Legends to 124 yards of total offense.
Fans at Zollner Stadium saw one of the most exciting games of the evening as Homestead edged 3A no. 15 Concordia 27-26. Down 20-10 at the half Homestead’s Jordan Presley scored two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter to give the Spartans a 24-20 lead. Presley finished with 23 carries for 183 yards. Homestead added a field goal early in the fourth to go up 27-20, but with 1:18 left in regulation Peterson Kerlegrand of Concordia broke free for a 44-yard score. The Cadets opted to go for two and their pass was incomplete, making it a 27-26 Homestead lead. The Cadets got the ball back with just over 30 seconds left and managed to move within field goal range. However, as time ran out Peter Morrison’s attempt glanced off the front of the crossbar, sealing a 27-26 win for the Spartans. Kerlegrand finished with 12 carries for 155 yards and three scores in the loss.
3A no. 7 Bishop Luers held on to defeat Wayne 21-13 thanks to a big game from J’Lyn Charlton. Charlton rushed 21 times for 158 yards and a touchdown. Dalyn Hart led the Generals with 18 carries for 134 yards while Zach Daniels hauled in a 65-yard touchdown reception from Diontre Collins-Jones.
At Spuller Stadium Casey Lawrence rushed 18 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns as Northrop bested South Side 35-20. Garrett Schoenle of Northrop was 10-for-18 passing for 168 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. South Side quarterback Dennis Johnson threw for 235 yards and a score.
