CASS, Ind. (WANE) – WANE-TV made the drive to Cass county on Friday and it was worth the trip as Churubusco bested Cass 18-12 in overtime. Trey Mayer scored two first-half touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) to give the Eagles a 12-6 lead at the break. Busco improves to 2-0 and will host the Highlight Zone “Game of the Week.”
Garrett earned county bragging rights on Friday night by beating rival DeKalb 28-14 at Cecil E. Young Field. Garrett was led by Cameron Smith’s 21 carries for 162 yards and a touchdown. The Railroaders improve to 2-0 on the season and will travel to Busco next week for the Highlight Zone “Game of the Week.”
4A no. 5 Leo traveled to Angola and defeated the Hornetws 34-17 behind another big night from Trenton Bonner. The speedy junior racked up 196 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns while sophomore quarterback A.J. Restivo threw for 137 yards and two scores. Angola quarterback Chance Roddy was 15-for-22 for 129 yards and two touchdowns.
At “The Airstrip” it was 1A no. 5 Adams Central over 2A no. 21 Eastside 28-14. Drew Schultz, the Jets workhorse, carried 20 times for 69 yards and a touchdown while Logan Macklin rushed for 73 yards and two scores. Eastside was led by quarterback Connor Dove who completed 14-of-27 for 215 yards and a touchdown – that score a 53-yard strike to Aaron Dean.
4A no. 20 New Haven scored early and often against Lakeland, topping the Lakers 62-26 at John Young Stadium. Nishawn Jones rushed 10 times for 128 yards and two touchdowns and also returned a punt for a score. New Haven quarterback KeShawn Moore was 10-for-14 for 133 yards and three touchdowns. Eli Wallace led Lakeland’s offense with 22 carries for 183 yards and two touchdowns.
