Berne, Ind. (WANE) – Bob Worthman Stadium saw South Adams top 3A no. 25 Bellmont 10-7 in a county rivalry game on Friday night. Caleb Hankenson rushed 24 times for 79 yards and a touchdown in the second quarter that gave the Braves a 7-0 lead. South Adams responded in the second half with a Marcus Teeter touchdown while Andres Martinez hit the game-winning field goal in the fourth quarter.
At “The Airstrip” it was 1A no. 5 Adams Central over 2A no. 21 Eastside 28-14. Drew Schultz, the Jets workhorse, carried 20 times for 69 yards and a touchdown while Logan Macklin rushed for 73 yards and two scores. Eastside was led by quarterback Connor Dove who completed 14-of-27 for 215 yards and a touchdown – that score a 53-yard strike to Aaron Dean.
2A no. 4 Woodlan went on the road to earn a 53-0 win at Prairie Heights. Justin Durkes was 18-for-21 for 249 yards and four scores – with three of those touchdowns going to Tre’Von McCarter, who tallied six receptions and 145 yards. Jack Rhoades carried 20 times for 205 yards and a touchdown for the Warriors. Dakota Quillman got Woodlan on the board early in the first quarter with a 35-yard fumble return for a touchdown.
Down at “The Courtyard” the Heritage Patriots spoiled Josh Gerber’s Ossian debut as the Pats topped the Knights 27-13. Jeshua Foster’s one-yard touchdown in the second quarter gave the Patriots a 6-0 lead as they improve to 1-1 on the season under new head coach Nico Tigulis. Norwell falls to 0-2 with the loss.
