Indianapolis police shoot, wound stolen vehicle suspect

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indianapolis police say officers shot and wounded a suspect who they said raised a firearm at officers after a foot chase.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials said officers arrived at the scene about 6 p.m. Thursday responding to reports of a reported armed suspect and stolen vehicle.

Police said the suspect fled on foot when officers confronted him. Police said officers chased the suspect before stopping him at gunpoint and telling him to get on the ground. Police said the suspect then started to raise a firearm at officers, who fired and struck the suspect at least once. Police recovered a firearm at the scene.

The suspect was taken to a hospital where he was listed in serious condition.

Involved officers are on administrative leave. The shooting is under investigation.
