USF quarterback Nick Ferrer earns preseason honor

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Nick Ferrer (6-4, 225, Jr. Westfield, IN / Westfield H.S.) has been named to the College Football America Yearbook’s NAIA Starting Lineup.

Ferrer, who threw for 40 TDs and 3,476 yards as a sophomore, led USF to the NAIA Football Championship Series Final 4 in 2015 and an 11-1 record.

Ferrer becomes the first USF football player named to CFAY’s preseason team. Earlier this summer Ferrer was named to the Sporting News College Football Yearbook NAIA Preseason All-America Team.

FROM A PRESS RELEASE:

Two players each from College of Idaho, Montana Tech, St. Xavier and Southwestern Assemblies of God have been named to the College Football America 2016 Yearbook NAIA Starting Lineup, CFA’s version of an All-America team.

College of Idaho landed tight end Marcus Lenhardt and defensive back Nate Moore on the team. Lenhardt caught 40 passes for 573 yards and seven touchdowns, while Moore intercepted six passes last season.
Montana Tech placed running back Nolan Saraceni and offensive lineman Ryan Stemple on the team. Saraceni rushed for 1,620 yards and 18 touchdowns last season with Stemple blocking for him. The Orediggers went 10-2 in 2015.

St. Xavier offensive lineman Kevin Lonergan and kick returner Stephen Simms both earned spots on this year’s Starting Lineup. Simms returned 25 kickoffs for 681 yards and a touchdown, including a 90-yarder last year.

SAGU defensive lineman D’Vonn Brown and defensive back Carl Morgan made sure the Lions were well-represented on the team. Brown had 62 tackles, including 11.5 sacks, while Morgan picked off five passes last season.

Defending champion Marian had wide receiver Krishawn Hogan earn a spot on the team.

Marian was one of 22 NAIA programs with players on this year’s Starting Lineup.

A whopping nine student-athletes on the Starting lineup were also 2015 American Football Coaches Association NAIA All-Americans. On offense, it was Hogan, Baker wide receiver Clarence Clark and Saraceni. On defense, it was Brown, Northwestern (IA) defensive lineman Sam Van Ginkel, Kentucky Christian linebacker Aaron Cooper, Wayland Baptist linebacker Alden Mann, Moore and Southern Oregon defensive back Julius Rucker.

Three players — all on offense — were also members of the 2015 CFA Starting Lineup. They are Lenhardt, Lonergan and MidAmerica Nazarene placekicker Cristian Casillas.

The College Football America 2016 Yearbook features more than 930 college football teams from the United States and Canada over the course of more than 300 striking, full-color pages. That includes every team from the NCAA (FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III), NAIA, NJCAA, CCCAA and Canada Interuniversity Sport (CIS). It also includes updates on club football, one-year postgraduate prep/sports academies and Mexican college football, along with dozens of action shots and stadium photos.
