OSSIAN, Ind. (WANE) – After 13 years as an assistant Josh Gerber takes over a Norwell program that’s looking to bounce back after a 1-9 season in 2015.
The Knights return a total of eight starters in 2016 – four on offense and four on defense.
Offensively, the Knights will be led by 6-foot-5, 300-pound lineman Curtis Blackwell. One of the top offensive linemen in the state, the senior has verbally committed to play at Ball State. He’s joined on the offensive line by stalwarts Aaron Osborn and Dalton Southard.
Sophomore Garrison Brege will be Norwell’s starting quarterback, leading a revamped scheme under coach Gerber, while Carson Ringger (461 rushing yards in 2015) returns at running back. The Knights averaged just 4.8 points a game last year and were shut out six times, so coach Gerber says offensive execution will be a big focus for the Knights in 2016.
Defensively, Blackwell and senior Colin Schwartz (31 tackles) will lead the way up front while the return of Christian Bohata will help bolster the secondary.
Norwell opens the season August 19 at Eastbrook.
