INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis police officer was shot and another officer injured before authorities shot and killed the suspect Monday evening, according to IMPD.
Police say officers pulled over a suspicious vehicle near 71st Street and Georgetown Road around 6:15 p.m. The male driver sped off and shot an officer in the leg, according to IMPD.
The man led police on a 15-mile chase ending at Rural Street and Washington Street, where officials say officers shot and killed the suspect.
The officer was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. IMPD Chief Troy Riggs said the unidentified officer has been with the department for less than a year. In addition to being shot in the leg, he might have a bullet graze wound to the head.
A second officer was injured but not shot. They were treated and released at the scene.
A female passenger bailed from the suspect’s vehicle during the chase. She was taken into custody.
Multiple shots were fired between the suspect and police during the pursuit.
The suspect and officers have not been identified.
