Police searching for man who stole crate of cigarettes

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) Police in New Haven are looking for a shoplifter who took a crate full of cigarette cartons from a Kroger location. On July 13, officers responded at about 2 a.m. to the store in the 800 block of Lincoln Highway West.

A man went in the store, completed his shopping and talked with an employee monitoring the self-checkout. Before leaving, he went into a secure area where cigarettes are stored. He was seen taking a shipping crate full of cigarette cartons from behind the counter and leaving the store, police said.

Police said the shoplifter fled in a dark colored van before they arrived at the store. The total loss to the store is estimated to be about $1,200.

Investigators said the accused shoplifter is described as being black or Latino with a medium build and black hair. Anyone with information is asked to call the New Haven Police Department at 260-748-7080.
