FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Three teams shared the first ever Northeast 8 football title last year, Bellmont, East Noble and Leo.

Bellmont (3A)

Head Coach:  Marty Ballard (1st season)*

2015 Record: 10-3

Bellmont captured a share of the first ever Northeast 8 title and a sectional championship in 2015. The Braves will be with a new head coach this year as Larry Getts retired after last season. Marty Ballard takes over as head coach and will have key returners on offense like Fab 15 honoree Caleb Hankeson who was Bellmont’s leading rusher and quarterback Grant Gutierrez.

Columbia City (4A)

Head Coach: Brett Fox (3rd season)

2015 Record: 2-8

Columbia City struggled on both sides of thr ball in 2015 and do not have a lot of varsity experience coming back. The Eagles do return quarterback Brock Snouffer on offense and linebacker Bronson Ball on defense who led the conference with 107 tackles in 2015.

DeKalb (4A)

Head Coach: Pete Kempf (3rd season)

2015 Record: 5-6

Pete Kempf’s squad lost two of their top offensive performers from last year with both Harrison Price and Fab 15 honoree Will Chrisman both graduated. Returning to the Barons is defensive tackle Dylan Hulbert and WR/DB Trevor Boyce.

East Noble (4A)

Head Coach: Luke Amstutz (9th season)

2015 Record: 8-2

East Noble kept up their consistent level of success in 2015 finishing with their 13th straight winning season. Still the Knights could not get over the playoff hump falling to NorthWood in the first round of sectionals. The Knights are poised for another run at postseason glory with quarterback Andrew McCormick back under center. Also back is receiver Dylan Hunley.

Huntington North (5A)

Head Coach: Rick Burnau (2nd season)

2015 Record: 3-8

Rick Burnau has high hopes for his second season at his alma mater. After  3-8 campaign the Vikings will have seven starters back on offense and eight on defense. Senior quarterback Lucas Long is back who split time under center with recently graduated Dakota Johnson. Also back is receiver Garrett Heaston.

Leo (4A)

Head Coach: Jared Sauder (11th season)

2015 Record: 10-2

The Lions ended their season in heartbreaking fashion missing a game-winning field goal by inches that would have gotten them past eventual 4A state champs Bishop Dwenger. The Co-NE8 champs will be without several key pieces this year like quarterback Kray Klopfenstein, tight end and linebacker Joe Lambright, running back Tyler Hensinger, and reciever Gunner Brown. Leo will return running back Trenton Bonner.

New Haven (4A)

Head Coach: Jim Rowland (16th season)

2015 Record: 7-4 record

New Haven brings back arguably one of the most talented teams in the area highlighted by running back Nishawn Jones and quarterback KeShawn Moore. Also returning is defensive lineman Diamon Towns.. The Bulldogs will be without receiver Tyon Woods and linebcker Mikael Griggs.

Norwell (3A)

Head Coach: Josh Gerber (1st season)* (South Adams grad)

2015 Record: 1-9

South Adams grad Josh Gerber takes over a Norwell team that only won one game in 2015. The new head coach does get one of the best lineman in the state 2015 Fab 15 honoree Curtis Blackwell who recently committed to Ball State.
