2016 High School Football Media Day – NECC

**Angola, Fremont. Fairfield, Lakeland, and Prairie Heights did not attend media day. We were not able to get interviews from Central Noble and Churubusco.**

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Garrett and Fairfield shared the NECC Big Division Crown and Eastside claimed the Small Division. All three teams are poised to make another run at the conference title.

Angola (4A)

Head Coach: Andy Thomas (3rd season)

2015 Record: 4-6

Angola has a quarterback search on their hands after losing Jake Roddy to graduation. Returning for the Hornets will be receiver Jarrtt Schultz and lineman Cole Trick.

Central Noble (2A)

Head Coach: Greg Moe (1st season)*

2015 Season:  5-5

First year head coach Greg Moe takes on a Cougars team that finished .500 on the year. He will have to replace several key pieces on offense like QB Shaw Smith, TE Alex Storms and RB Kaleb Mooney.

Churubusco (2A)

Head Coach: Paul Sade (4th season)

2015 Record: 6-5

Churubusco had a promising year despite losing QB Drew Buffenbarger with an injury early in the season. Returning for the Eagles will be QB Brennan Hilkey who took over for Buffenbarger and now has almost a full year of varsity experience. Busco will need to replace RB Landon Harris and DB Chance Gallmeier.

Eastside (2A)

Head Coach: Mike Eshbach (9th season)

2015 Record: 7-4

Eastside looking for another strong season in 2016. Back for the Blazers are running back Keezan Jerrard and QB Connor Dove.

Fairfield (3A)

Head Coach: Bob Miller (15th season)

2015 Record: 6-4

Fairfield will feel the loss of RB/DB Mitch Dewitt but looking to pick up the slack are veterans like Zach Wagler, Michael Shetler. and Brady Willard.

Fremont (1A)

Head Coach: Jim Hummer (3rd season)

2015 Record: 2-8

Fremont struggled in 2015 but will have experience on their side this season. QB Nick LaRose is back along with reciever Brandon Kuhn and running back Zach Peel.

Garrett (3A)

Head Coach: Chris DePew (5th season)

2015 Record: 9-3

The NECC big division champs are back for another strong 2016 with their core of skill players back from last season. QB Tanner Burns is back along with receiver Ben Purdy. Burns will be without one of his favorite targets Kordell Kessler.

Lakeland (3A)

Head Coach: Keith Thompson (12th season)

2015 Record: 6-5

Lakeland will be looking to fill holes in the trenches after losing six offensive lineman to graduation. Experienced running back Eli Wallace does return along with quarterback Erik Mellinger

Prairie Heights (2A)

Head Coach: Matt Lazusky (1st season)*

Record: 0-10 (Haven’t had a winning record since 1989)

Prairie Heights is searching for their first winning season since 1989 and they’ll be doing so without several key pieces like QB Kenyon Helmuth.

West Noble (3A)

Head Coach: Monte Mawhorter (18th season)

Record: 1-9

West Noble will look to replace guys in the trenches but have veteran back at the skills positions like quarterback Chase Wroblewski.
