FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Woodlan emerged as the powerhouse of the ACAC in 2015 with Adams Central not too far behind.
Adams Central (1A)
Head Coach: Michael Mosser (8th season)
2015 Record: 11-2
Adams Central soared to success in 2015 winning the sectional championship over Monroe Central. Michael Mosser’s crew will look to continue their success in 2015 without leading rusher Hunter Bates. Also graduating are tight end Luke Voirol and running back Bailey Hurst. The Flying Jets will have quarterback Andrew Hammond.
Head Coach: Randy Hudgins (8th season)
2015 Record: 2-8
The Bluffton Tigers are losing one of the best football players to come through Buffton D’Wayne Eskridge. The running back and three-time track state champ is now at Western Michigan. The Tigers do return other key pieces like quarterbac Timothy David receiver Nick Huffar and linebacker Decorian Eskridge..
Head Coach: Nico Tigulis (1st season)
2015 Record: 6-4
For the first time in six years Heritage will have a new face leading the football team. Dean Lehrman stepped down after last year choosing to just focus on the baseball team. Nico Tigulis takes over after working with the Carroll football team. He will have to replace his almost his entire offensive and defensive line. He will have Walter Knapke back at quarterback and running back Evan Knapke to work with.
Jay County (4A)
Head Coach: Tim Millspaugh (4th season)
2015 Record: 4-6
Jay County will have plenty of experience returning on both sides of the ball in 2016. Quarterback Holton Hill returns as well as receivers Caleb Kunkle, Bryan Stancliffe, running backs Caleb Stant, and Cole Stigleman. On defense six linebackers come to the team with varsity experience.
South Adams (2A)
Head Coach: Grant Moser (2nd season)
2015 Record: 1-9
South Adams will have experience on their side as they look to improve on their 1-9 record. Except for quarterback the Starfires return starters at every position. South Adams will be without leading rusher Drew LeFever. On defense the Starfires return right starters.
Southern Wells (1A)
Head Coach: Steve Yencer (4th season)
2015 Record: 7-4
Southern Wells is looking to build off their 7-4 season in 2015. The Raiders return receiver Braxton Gerber and two-way lineman Elijiah Barkell but lose quarterback Bryce Bonewit.
Head Coach: Sherwood Haydock (6th season)
2015 Record: 13-1
Woodlan made it all the way to semi-state in 2015 after capturing the conference title. The Warriors were led by Fab 15 running back Mitchell VanBrocklin who graduated last year. Woodlan does return six starters on their offensive line as well as running back Jack Rhoades. Quarterback Justin Durkes is also back with wideout Tre’Von McCarter looking to have a breakout year.
