Passenger killed in multi-vehicle pile-up on toll road

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (WANE)  A semi slammed into stopped traffic near a construction zone on the Indiana Toll Road early Friday afternoon, killing one person and injuring several others.

According to Indiana State Police, the traffic was stopped in the west bound lanes due to the construction zone and two earlier crashes.  A semi driver approached the stopped traffic at highway speeds and and failed to slow down.  HIs rig slammed into traffic, causing a chain reaction crash.

The crash killed Dennis Caslin, 73, of Lakewood, Ohio who was a passenger in one of the vehicles that was struck.

Several other people suffered non-life threatening injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police.  The crash report and investigation will be submitted to the St. Joseph County Prosecutors Office  to determine if any charges should be filed.
