Search continues on Lake Tippecanoe for missing man

Chicago man's body could be in depths greater than 100 feet

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A 70-year-old Chicago man has disappeared into the depths of Lake Tippecanoe in Kosciusko County.

Indiana Conservation Officers and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department said John J. Forbes Sr. was swimming in Lake Tippecanoe just off a Tri-Toon boat with his wife, son and a family friend without a life jacket Friday evening when he drifted under the water and never resurfaced.

Now five days later, crews are still searching for the 70-year-old from Chicago. Conservation officers said rough conditions on the lake and its great depth have made the search difficult and lengthy.

According to release from the state Department of Natural Resources office Wednesday, crews were using side-scan sonar to image the bottom of the lake. Officials said Forbes’ body could be in depths greater than 100 feet.
