City Council approves Dana tax proposal

The Dana plant on West State Boulevard has asked Fort Wayne City Council for a tax abatement as it plans to install some $90 million in new equipment.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) City Council members have approved a proposal for Dana to add hundreds of jobs. Tuesday night, Dana asked the council to allow for new taxes the state created to be added slowly in the future.

The 100 year-old company wants the tax abatement so it can create more than 100 jobs and improve machinery. Dana will get an 100 percent tax abatement over the first year, dropping to 10 percent annually over the next 10 years.

In Dana’s expansion plan, 165 jobs will be added by 2020 and nearly 600 more will be kept. Dana officials said the plan is a $90 million investment.

The plant makes vehicle parts for the automotive industry.
