Police: Teen critically hurt after crashing stolen car into house

DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A 16-year-old is in critical condition after crashing a car into a home south of Garrett Sunday morning.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. when the teenager was driving on County Road 60 and went off the road. The car then crashed into a home at 1587 County Road 60.

A department report said when officers arrived they found the driver on the ground. The teenager was hospitalized in critical condition with internal injuries and numerous cuts.

Investigators discovered the car the teenager was driven had been stolen from a location in the 1700 block of County Road 68.

Police said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The home suffered considerable damage.

Police are withholding the juvenile’s name and said charges could be filed against the teenager.

The crash is under investigation.
